About the Libertarian Party
The Libertarian Party originated as a living room discussion group in Colorado Springs, CO, and was officially established as a political party on December 11, 1971. Since then it has grown to become the largest alternative to the Democrat-Republican duopoly across the country, with nearly every state and many counties within those states running active affiliates, and over 500,000 Americans being registered to vote as a Libertarian. Since the very inception of our party, we’ve been unabashedly and consistently fighting for individual freedom. And unlike the two old, declining parties, when we say in our campaign speeches that we support freedom, we really mean it.
