Zach for Mount Joy Borough Council

Hi,

I’m Zach Moore. I am running for Mount Joy Borough Council in the West Ward this November because I am fed up with what the status quo is doing to our homes and communities. I have had conversations about politics, government, and daily challenges with people from all over and all walks of life, but I never seem to find it too difficult to find some common ground, even when we’re discussing heavy issues. When people treat each other with respect and tolerance, even when they disagree, those are the moments I know there is still some hope. I think that across the board, most folks just want to feel safe and to be able to choose how to live their lives without interference.

The leadership of the two major political parties does not want anyone to feel safe, and they certainly do not want to protect personal freedom. If we want to see things improve, we must look outside of what the two major parties keep offering because that obviously is not working.

I promise to work tirelessly to improve our community, protect our freedom, and oppose oppression. I will advance practical solutions which reduce government waste and adapt to meet the changing needs of the community. I will look to build partnerships with likeminded public servants and business owners. I will honor the obligations of the position and get some actual work done.

What am I passionate about bringing to this office?

Protecting lives, liberties, and property:

Whether it be modifications to our borough ordinances, adjusting policing strategies, changing traffic patterns, or some other action, I want to always be improving protections for the lives and property of our citizens without threatening their freedom. Sometimes that will mean changing the point where a speed limit drops from 35 to 25 in order to avoid accidents at a blind turn or intersection. Sometimes it will mean changing or removing legislation which would otherwise infringe on the individual rights of our residents.

Ensuring our borough government is transparent and accountable:

Our elected officials have a responsibility to faithfully uphold the oath of their office, to respect and carry out the duties and obligations they are sworn to. The business and activities of any government must be accountable and transparently available to its people. I will demand that borough business be conducted in a full and accessible view to the residents of Mount Joy. I will demand that fiscal decisions be made responsibly and only after thorough public discussion has identified the best and most agreeable option for Mount Joy residents. I will commit to making myself available to hear the concerns of the people of Mount Joy and to keep them informed of the details of their municipal government.

Improving and maintaining infrastructure to build the Mount Joy of tomorrow:

Fixing and updating our water/sewer/storm water system, improving broadband internet access, updating and maintaining our roads, and finding smart solutions to meet housing needs will make Mount Joy continue to be an attractive place to live, work, and conduct business. To ensure our infrastructure is updated efficiently and in a way that supports the present and future of our community, I will help facilitate meaningful partnerships and responsible agreements between our town and the developers and contractors doing work here. I will advocate for a reduction in any red tape and state government overreach that might impede progress, and on the other side of the coin, I will also stand against reckless public works spending, unnecessary and unwanted projects, and any projects that exact an extra burden on the taxpayer and/or property owner. There is a delicate balance to strike when maintaining and improving a town, and it is important to maintain a commitment to honesty, responsibility, and engineering solutions of mutual consent and maximum return. I am committed to do so.

I want a better tomorrow for Mount Joy, one where every resident knows they are safe; one where reliable infrastructure supports jobs, investment, safety, and comfort; one where families can afford to live and thrive; one where elected officials represent their people’s interests over their party’s; and one where our personal liberties go unobstructed. This is my vision for Mount Joy.

Candidate Brew&A:

A common trope is that people want political candidates ‘they could see themselves having a beer with’. Well, here’s your chance. To answer your questions and to hear your concerns, candidate Moore will be holding regular ‘office hours’ at Mount Joy’s various brewing establishments and public houses leading up to the election.

Don’t worry. We aren’t expecting everyone to go out looking to talk politics in seedy bars late at night (unless you want to), and Mr. Moore will never bring the politics to you. He’ll just be there to sip a beer and to be available to you. Many of these establishments are family friendly, serve food, and have daytime hours. Zach will try to hold these events over a variety of times and days of the week and will be holding other events throughout the campaign, not just at bars and restaurants.

Pubs have been the home of community engagement and the open discussion of ideas with friends, neighbors, and total strangers for centuries. Join Zach in celebrating this age-old tradition, and support local businesses while you do.

Please refer to the LPLCPA Calendar for details on upcoming Brew&As and other events.
