Zach for PA Senate, District 36

Hi, I’m Zach Moore. I am running for PA State Senate in the 36th District because I am fed up with what the major parties are doing to our homes and communities. Whenever I speak to people, no matter where they’re from or what they do for a living, whether they are religious or not, and regardless of their self-described political affiliation, I never seem to find it too difficult to find some common ground. I think across the board, folks just want to feel safe and to have the ability to choose how to live their lives without interference. Republican and Democratic party leadership do not want us to feel safe, and they certainly do not want to protect our liberties.

If elected, I promise to work tirelessly to improve our community, protect our liberty, and oppose oppressive policies and the legislators that advocate for them. I will push for practical solutions which reduce government waste and adapt quickly to meet needs, rather than spend my time trying to get my name on some expensive and ineffective new government program. I will work with likeminded public servants to get some actual work done in Harrisburg, and I will be a thorn in the side of those that would abuse the power of these positions to benefit only themselves.

I want to fix schools: Our current model for school funding is inequitable and confusing. Politicians love to virtue signal by proposing increases to spending in underserved areas without addressing the harmful policies that led to the inequities in the first place. The hold harmless policy needs to go, the state needs to fund its fair share to reduce the burden of local property taxes, and funding needs to follow students and not institutions. These changes alone would be enough to effectively fund education without increasing expenses, but I also want to expand educational choice for families so that each child is able to get an educational experience that suits their individual needs, both inside and outside the classroom.

I want to improve our elections and ensure fair districts: To get rid of the harmful effect of gerrymandering, I advocate for the use of technology to draw our voting district boundaries. There is no way a group of people is going to be objective in drawing boundary maps, and that goes infinitely more so for a commission of legislators. The process should be automated and fully transparent, and a commission of private citizens should be the ones to approve district boundaries, not elected officials. Additionally, I want to improve our elections by adopting Approve/Approve/Disapprove Voting (AADV), term limits on legislative positions, and streamlined ballot access for all. These steps will protect our elections, improve representation, and ensure that legislators do their jobs.

I want to cut government waste: I want to simplify social services by adopting a One-door policy which merges access to social services and workforce programs to make it easier to get the assistance you need when you suffer a setback, so you can get yourself and your family back on track. People can easily get trapped in a welfare web, bogged down by red tape. Cutting out redundancy and making it so that people are able to get the services they need to get back on track all in one place will mean less time spent struggling and a shorter road to recovery. Everyone needs help sometimes. Getting it shouldn’t trap you.

I want PA based energy production and lower energy costs for Pennsylvanians: We need to make sure the lights stay on. Some recent policies are seeing energy investment leave the commonwealth which threatens the businesses and livelihoods of our citizens. When electricity isn’t produced here, it has to travel from further away, driving up cost and energy loss. If the argument is for a greener power grid, the answer is not to chase power generation out through punishing regulation, it is to incentivize renewable energy sources while we transition away from traditional fossil fuels. Ignoring the costs and environmental impacts of energy transmission is shortsighted and just another costly and impractical policy of virtue signaling for short-term political points. I will work to ensure the future of Pennsylvania’s energy is secure.

I want to improve our infrastructure to support the economy of tomorrow: Getting rid of lead in our pipes, improving broadband internet, and updating and maintaining our transportation system will make Pennsylvania an attractive place to live, work, and conduct business. I want the state to help facilitate partnerships between government and the private sector to ensure our infrastructure is being updated efficiently and in a way that supports the present and future economy. I will advocate for this and for a reduction in red tape and overreach that might impede it.

I want a better tomorrow for Pennsylvania, one where every Pennsylvanian knows when they leave school that they have learned and earned the skills and experience they need to succeed, one where energy stability and reliable infrastructure supports an abundance of jobs and investment, one where families can afford to buy homes and stay in them, one where elected officials represent their people’s interests over their party’s, and one where our personal liberties go unobstructed. This is my vision for the 36th District and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and if it seems farfetched to you, do yourself a favor and ask yourself why. Who keeps telling you we cannot accomplish these things, and why might they say so?

Candidate Moore will be touring the 36th District’s breweries and public houses in the days leading up to the election to answer your questions and to hear your concerns and of course to also enjoy the refreshments offered at these local establishments. Pubs have been the home of community engagement and the open discussion of ideas with strangers for time immeasurable. Join Zach in celebrating this tradition, and support local businesses while you do.
